COVID-19 SAFETY
Committed to Health, Safety, & Education
Times have been difficult since the Covid-19 pandemic began. We at Huntington-Surrey understand and empathize: like you, we’ve had to navigate the troubled waters of uncertainty and concern, community transmission, distance learning, the evolving public health situation, and the return last year to in-person instruction. Throughout it all, we’ve continued to focus on our fundamental, constant goal: to deliver a top-quality high school education to our students while prioritizing out community’s health, well-being, and safety.
In order to act in accordance with that goal, we’ve continually reviewed and updated our Covid-19 safety plan. We will continue to do so in accordance with the latest public health advice as the situation continues to develop and change. You, our school family, come first, always. We are committed to protecting our students and faculty from an unacceptable level of risk.
Here is our current set of policies (adopted August 12, 2022):
-
Classes meet in person by default since our return from distance learning last year.
-
Vaccines and boosters for Covid-19 are strongly encouraged for all those eligible: click here to learn more about how to get vaccinated in Texas.
-
Masking is optional with well-fitted cloth or disposable masks, except for the following when it is mandatory:
-
2 weeks following the start of the semester, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break;
-
Any time when the Austin Public Health Community Level of Risk is “High;”
-
Any time when the Austin Public Health Community Level of Risk is “Medium” and cases are trending upwards.
-
-
Stay home if you have symptoms or test positive for Covid-19! Do not come to school if you think you might be contagious or have not fully recovered.
If we all step up and stick to our policies, we can protect each other. This is our best defense against the virus. This is how we can put our Huntington-Surrey values into practice. We invite you to do your part with us.
