Meet The Team

Angie Woodworth, CALT, CDT, CLS

​Angie is a Certified Academic Language Therapist, a Certified Dyslexia Therapist and a Certified Learning Specialist. Angie has over 30 years of teaching experience, supporting students through customized curricula and supporting parents and educators by offering workshops and staff development. Angie's two youngest boys attended Huntington-Surrey, and she has served on Huntington-Surrey's board both as Vice President and President. Her dedication to Huntington-Surrey and its success is why she has chosen to join the school as Administrative Director and Student Support. 

Michael Zumpano, M.Ed.

As Head of School, Michael believes that education should emphasize the cultivation of the mind and heart as well as academics. Michael brings more than 20 years of experience in public and private schools as well as his own experiential learning program, Minds in Motion. A certified yoga teacher, Michael also teaches our Friday PE/yoga elective. Michael has a master's degree in Education from SUNY-Cortland.

Alyssa Jade

Alyssa attended St. Edwards University for Accounting. She now juggles teaching Yearbook and Photography while being the Administrative Assistant at Huntington-Surrey. She is also a deeply talented artist and you can find some of her artwork in the prep classroom in which she resides. In her free time, she enjoys playing video games, listening to music, and spending time with her partner and her cat. 

Amelia Thiesing

Hello! My name is Amelia Thiesing, and I've spent the past eight years teaching students of all ages, helping them explore their creativity and build confidence through art.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, I am a mural artist passionate about creating opportunities for students to express themselves while learning new skills. Every project I take on is a chance to spark imagination, foster connection, and celebrate the joy of creating together. 

Abraham Kinney, M.A.

Abe earned his bachelor's degree at UT in English and his master's degree in Education at Texas State University. He exhibits a passion for and expertise in literature and writing. Abe is also an artist, guitarist, and artisan carpenter!

Cathy Moore

Cathy earned her bachelor's in Education from the University of Texas at Austin. Cathy has thirty years of teaching high school English, German, and Latin. She is especially fond of the Transcendentalists and Romantic poets. A skilled quilter, Cathy also teaches Fabric Arts.

Deb Carney, MFA

Deb has a Bachelor's of Science from UT Austin and a MFA in Creative Writing and English Literature from Southwest Texas State University. She recently retired after 28 years as a student advisor at UT Austin with the last 15 years spent with the McCombs School of Business managing group global and experiential learning trips and individual study abroad programs. A proud H-S alum mom as well as faculty, Deb is your point of contact to join our wonderful community as a 9-12 grade student or support our school's mission with a gift of any size.

Ferris Duhon, J.D.

Ferris has taught at Huntington-Surrey for over 20 years. An accomplished teacher, musician (a founding member and violinist with the Austin Civic Orchestra), and attorney, Ferris has kindly and patiently guided our students. Ferris earned his B.A. from Rice and law degree from the UT. (He also supplies us with weekly king cakes during Epiphany!)

Johni Walker-Little, M.A.

Loved by students, families, and staff, Johni brings 30 years of her knowledge, enthusiasm and joy to Huntington-Surrey High School. With a master's degree from the University of Texas, Johni has come out of retirement to return to teaching Individual Literature.

Kimmy Su

Kimmy earned her B.S. in Biology from UT Arlington, where she also minored in Education and earned her K–12 Life Science teaching certification. As part of the university’s four-year UTeach program, she developed a passion for helping students explore science through inquiry and critical thinking. Her academic background includes graduate-level research in bioinformatics, evolutionary genetics, and neuroscience. During her first year teaching at Westlake High School, seven of her students nominated her for the Golden Apple Award for educators, an accolade given by students to recognize teachers who have significantly impacted their lives. Outside of teaching, she loves producing music and playing video games with friends.

Lily Young, M.S.

Lily graduated from Texas Tech University with a Masters in Mathematics. Lily loves coffee, computers, and teaching - she's very excited to be in the classroom imparting a love of all things mathematical to her students!

Steve Foy, Ph.D.

Earning his Ph.D. in Classics, Steve did his undergraduate work at Haverford College and his graduate work at the University of Texas. He has been teaching at Huntington Surrey for the past 13 years and each year always looks forward to interesting discussions with old and new students alike!
