ABOUT HUNTINGTON-SURREY SCHOOL
Education should never be a one-size-fits-all...
We are a private middle and high school in Austin, Texas, for grades 8 through 12 (exceptional 8th graders who are ready for 9th-grade level coursework or above), with a focus on learning and preparation for college - as well as for life. Our student-to-teacher ratio is the smallest of any private school in Austin with no more than 8:1 for a core class and 3:1 in our unique Oxford Tutorial style literature classes.
Our small class sizes allow teachers the ability to utilize multiple teaching strategies in order to effectively reach each of our unique learners. We get to know our students on a personal level. There is no "teaching to the middle" here!
As dedicated as we are to providing a quality, relevant education to each of our students, we are equally committed to maintaining a positive, safe, student-empowered community. The "Huntington-Surrey Way" has successfully graduated hundreds of students since 1973.
The formula is simple: our teachers are excited to teach engaging curriculum to engaged students. We make it no secret that we LOVE our kids, and it is our honor to be a part of this dynamic stage of growth in their life.
Our purpose is to prepare our students for college and life while honoring each one as an individual who adds value to the world.
It is important to note that Huntington-Surrey School's accreditor is the prestigious Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, known as AdvancED - SACS. Our international accreditation is further backed by the fact that SACS is the same body that accredits the University of Texas at Austin. It is widely recognized as a leading accreditation body in Texas and throughout the United States.
Our mission is to provide a high-quality education to bright, divergent thinkers from 8th to 12th grade who prefer a smaller school environment and a more personalized academic experience.
We prepare students for lifelong learning so that they may successfully meet the many challenges of the twenty-first century.
We equip students with the knowledge and tools that will empower them to make decisions conscientiously and to create a life of happiness and success.
Our staff models open-mindedness, social awareness, and a continued curiosity about the world around us. We teach students how to think, not what to think.
