We are all about hands-on discovery at Huntington-Surrey. Using the scientific method, students are challenged to partake in experiments to find answers to their own questions. Students are also guided through writing thorough lab reports including numerous skills such as data collection, analysis, prediction, visual representation of information, comparing and contrasting, and formal informational writing.
Through project-based learning, students are given the opportunity and freedom to take a "deeper dive" into a scientific topic that excites them by gathering research and presenting the findings to their peers in a variety of ways.
And because we do not believe "subjects" should be taught in a vacuum, all of our teachers collaborate to create cross curricular experiences for all of our students. Our ELA teachers help our students with essays or projects they may have assigned for social studies or science. One might find US History students reading Huck Finn, or physics students reading Hidden Figures in their English classes.
Science classes offered are:
Physical Science (IPC)
